Vincent Coomans - Dark Dog

On January 16, 2026, Dark Dog, the second album by Vincent Coomans, will be released via Wellington Records.

Vincent Coomans wrote the album during a confusing and emotional period in his life, when he became a father just as his own father was slowly losing everything he had built up over a lifetime – language, motor skills, and memories. While processing these deeply sorrowful impressions through music at home, in the presence of his daughter, Coomans noticed how she was, in contrast, gaining everything – language, motor skills, memories – and how she enriched the music with her voice, toy instruments, and exuberant play in the background. In this way, the heavy, loaded music took on an oddly vibrant, playful, and joyful character. Coomans decided to record the music in his home environment and to capture everything as it unfolded. He invited his band to intuitively join in and play along. Banjos, mandoguitars, trumpet, and violin enrich the sonic palette of the album, which also features raw and abrasive solo tracks. Dark Dog is a grim, yet intimate and beautiful ode to life as it quietly unfolds, while, in the background, a slow-motion catastrophe takes place.
