On January 21, momoyo will release My sister slept, a song Jonas Bruyneel wrote for his sister who died thirty years ago on that date.

"My Sister Slept" is an important song for Frie and me. We both lost a sibling, and this song clicked from the rough demos. That's why we chose to keep it pure and add nothing. Just her voice and my guitar. We recorded the song during a late-night recording session at North Garden Studios, with microphones set up all around to capture every sigh and movement. Intimate and up close. No one in the studio except violist Esther Coorevits, who took the stage for the occasion. Only people we truly know and trust. You hear Frie and me communicating through the music, so caught up in the moment that we're on the verge of breaking. When we played the last note and looked up with tears in our eyes, we saw Esther looking back from the control room. We immediately knew we'd recorded the right take.

The video was made by my brother, filmmaker Hannes Bruyneel. Together, we delved into our parents' video archives to find footage of our sister, footage that had been hidden for thirty years. Here too, we opted for slowness. No quick editing to lure in fleeting viewers, but an honest portrait of a family naively and unpreparedly embracing life.
